Hello and welcome to my website.
First things first, it's recommended you view this website on a desktop! I haven't spent a lot of time on making it mobile responsive yet.
I started creating this website because I've been wanting to get away from social media more, but also to practice some stuff I'm currently learning in my college course. I dislike how modern socmed have stripped us from our creativity. Creating your own space on the web, away from dopamine overload, influencers, advertisements, and whatnot, is something I would honestly recommend to anyone. All you need is to learn some basic HTML and CSS (and optionally some JavaScript). This website is hosted on Neocities, who is trying to keep the Old Internet alive and free.
In my offline life, I want to collect more physical media again. It recently hit me how we never truly own anything when we buy online games, stream films or music online, or save files to "The Cloud". As much as I loooove technology and the digital era, nothing will beat flipping through the pages of a paper book, or inserting a cartridge in your favorite gaming console, don't you think?
TBH I think it started going downhill when social media platforms gave us less and less customization features on our profiles, and started adding more and more socialization features. The internet is no longer a place you can visit, you're living alongside it 24/7.
I also hate how they shut down Adobe Flash!!! Some of my favorite childhood Flash games have completely disappeared from the internet. (This is another reason why I want to collect more physical media). I think Flash game websites used to be a separate safe space for kids and young teens, in comparison to modern socmed. Don't get me wrong, I'm obviously not claiming that the 'old web' used to be some paradise, but in comparison to how social media is now with its dopamine pumping algorithms, I miss it...
Though simultaneously I do believe that Pandora's Box has already been opened, and that we wont magically get to "go back to how things were", we can still choose to revisit old ways of living while still accepting that life is a continuous cycle of rebuilding and letting go. Just like how I still have my social media accounts (it's not easy to fully give those up in this day and age), but also work on this Neocities website as a more quiet corner on the internet :]
Anyway, have fun exploring my personal digital space!
